Weekly Penguin

Weekly Penguin 946

New territory; penguin robots! Well, not new, I know a thing or two about penguinators, but here we have a real, functioning solar powered penguin bot.

The packaging

This is Penguin Life. a DIY robot penguin kit from CIC. The kit is relatively easy to assemble, no glue required. That said, if you have Finnish man sausage fingers like myself, trying to manoeuvre the wiring through their designated openings can get tricky.

The penguin's igloo works as a recharge station with a tiny solar panel on top. The whole idea of this kit is to have green robotic fun, so the solar power is the only way to power this cute little guy. When powered up, it can waddle for two minutes or more, flapping its flippers as it goes. It's adorable!

That said, I wonder what the penguin does during Antarctic winter? I doubt a solar panel can be powered by aurorae, or can it?
