I've barely managed to take breather between all the crazy projects I've been buzzing between lately – I'll be posting a blog about some of the stuff shortly – so I still haven't had the change to finalize the next batch of plush toy wallpapers. However, as a consolation price, here comes the début of the best villain ever to graze the celluloid, Feathers McGraw.
Yes, we're talking about the Oscar-winning short animation The Wrong Trousers, the second in the now-household-name franchise Wallace and Gromit. The story centres around a new lodger moving into Wallace & Gromit household. This this menacing tenant is a penguin called Feathers McGraw, who is scheming an evil plan, involving Wallace's new robotic trousers.
The story is, in a word, brilliant. Every frame of this animation oozes love for Hitchcock-styled thrillers and cinematography, only it involves a penguin wearing a rubber glove on his head as a disguise. It's just the most perfect short film I have ever seen and I'm wondering why the hell haven't I featured it sooner. And Feathers McGraw is seriously one of the best antagonists of all time; It's really amazing how menacing this penguin is.
The film was directed by Nick Park and co-written by Park and one Bob Baker. Nick Park has claimed praise with his Aardman Animations works, while Bob Baker happens to also be one of the more influential writers to script Doctor Who in the 70s. In fact, Mr. Baker is the writer who came up with K-9.
