It's been ages since we featured Christmas cards, isn't it? The truth is, I've featured almost all the ones I have. And it's a bit... sad one.
It's no secret that almost exactly two years ago, my Mother passed away. She was an avid letter writer, with pen-friends all over the world. She used to exchange letters and postcards all the time, to the point we used to joke she was the one keeping the seemingly-struggling Finnish post office in business. And naturally, she sent and received tons of Season's Greetings – selections of which she would tape onto the kitchen cabinet doors.
I've been doing the wrap-up of her belongings around the apartment and taking down these cards was basically the last thing left. And among the cards, was this one. It is quite old and doesn't have any artist information, besides the card printing company label: Papron, which is seemingly defunct.
The text says "Joulupuu on rakennettu", ("Christmas tree has been built"), which is a Christmas song blending K. O. Schönemann's I jorti mas stolismeni and a Finnish traditional melody. Some really old-school Weekly Penguin readers may find the phrase familiar – we featured another Season's Greetings card showcasing the same text all the way back in 2008.
