Well, since we got into the topic of penguin books – and ones that turned out to be series without me realising it – let's have another!
This is Evil Emperor Penguin, a comic book by the illustrator Laura Ellen Anderson and published by David Fickling Books. This is a story of an Emperor Penguin who is not-so-good. In fact, this is the Evil Emperor Penguin (EEP for short), an evil genius hell-bent on taking over the world. With the aid of his assistant Eugene – a tiny cloned abominable snowman – EEP tries to do just that. And oh boy, he has multitude of plans on how to carry this out!
I love this stuff. It's akin to something like 1960s Batman; it works as a silly romp for children while older readers will get a kick out of the way it riffs on it's genre – the genre in this case being 'evil super-villains'. The Evil Emperor Penguin does a great job in this regard and if there's one thing I am qualified to judge, it's stories about evil supervillain penguins trying to take over the world 😅
Much like Sam Hays' Spy Penguins last week, I didn't realise until doing the research for this feature the book I've had for quite some time was the first in a full series! Good thing, because I need more EEP in my life.
