More penguin music – and something quite different. Here is Duck, the instrumental concept album by the brilliant rock-fusion band The Aristocrats. The group is a trio consisting of Guthrie Govan (guitars), Bryan Beller (bass) and Marco Minnemann (drums) – all of whom have enough big credits in their resume for The Aristocrats basically count as a 'super-group'.
Duck, released in 2024, follows the misadventures of D.D. Duck, who had to flee his home island after an altercation with a group of penguin misfits earned him an arrest warrant. Now wanders through New York with the big police penguin Sargent Rockhopper on his tail feathers!
As mentioned, the album is all instrumental, consisting of nine tracks – three tracks composed by each member of the band. In addition to the music tickling your imagination, the story is also told through the song titles, the album artwork and even a full novelisation of sorts uploaded semi-frequently to the band's website.
The artwork is also worth a mention, as it comes from Lance Myers – who is probably best known for being the lead animator for the original Space Jam. The illustrations are great, giving a solid idea what the characters are about.
I'll leave you with the theme of the Sgt. Rockhopper:
