Weekly Penguin 919

And back to GoGo Penguin CDs. Next up is one that aligns with another musical intrigue of mine; soundtracks.

The album Ocean in a Drop, released under Bluenote in 2019 and available on CD exclusively in Japan for some reason, originally came to life as a new live-performance score for the experimental movie Koyaanisqatsi by Godfrey Reggio. The original score for the movie was by the minimalist maestro Philip Glass, so taking on such a cult wonder can't have been an easy task.

The album works great out of its film-score context, too, mind. Unless you're an obsessive weirdo like me who digs up backgrounds for all the stuff he enjoys, you really might not have realised that it is in fact a score. Everything you'd expect from the band is here, so just press play, close your eyes and let the music take you away.

And so concludes the current 'complete GoGo Penguin CD discography'. There is only one EP left that is currently only available as a vinyl, but I now know to keep my eye out for a Japanese release. Except with my luck a year from now I'll be informed that it was already on CD exclusively in Bangladesh or something.
