Weekly Penguin

Weekly Penguin 774

Last year I covered the first book in the series Space Penguins, written by Lucy Courtenay and illustrated by James Davies. I didn't realise when I picked it up that it was part of a series that spans total of seven books and one exclusively digital one. Well, you know what? I've since acquired the full series in paperback form.

In the second book Space Penguins: Cosmic Crash! the starship Tunafish crash-lands on an alien planet covered in water. The mostly-fearless captain James T. Krill and his mostly-capable crew find a way to escape the predicament. To make things worse, there's also a tentacled sea monster.

Like before, the series carries on with tongue in cheek comic book style story-telling, the sci-fi trope puns a plenty and the illustrations are simple but spot on. And the excellent throw-back sci-fi cover illustrations are the main reason I wanted the series in paperback form as opposed to hard cover or digital; they really look like an old penguin-pulp sci-fi paperback series.
