Back to the topic interrupted by the holidays; Rocketbirds! We continue the story with, obviously, Rocketbirds 2: Evolution by Ratloop Asia, released in 2017.

Rocketbirds 2 continues immediately where the first left off. The first game ended with such a big plot twist that I can't go into the story into too much detail without spoiling things. However, what matters is that iL Putzki is somehow back and the hero Hardboiled Chicken has to deal with him once and for all. There are some really grim reveals about the plans of the penguins and the alliances they've formed in order to conquer the world.

Gameplay-wise, Rocketbirds 2 is quite different compared to the original. For one, the game is closer to twin-stick shooter with controls more akin to, for example, TAGAP – complete with 360° firing radius for both the player and the enemies. To balance things out, all weapons now have to be reloaded and headshots count for extra damage, ensuring you can't just keep run 'n gunning your way through.

The presentation has also gotten a boost. Where the first one had a hand-animated flat-shaded characters, in the sequel they are have a 'hand-painted' look, with shaders adjusting the lighting smoothly. It looks great.

There's also a new special ops team of the resistance called SARS. The squad leader Metal Chicken – who is very much like a Scottish version of Solid Snake if he was a bird – plays a big part in the single player campaign. And you get to play as the whole squad in the second chapter of the game, which is designed specifically for co-op (on- or offline).
