This year was a lull in terms of content on TAGAP arena, but it has been anything but behind the scenes. Something new is brewing and though it isn't ready for its premiere, I'm aiming for a splashy reveal next year.
It sadly also means there isn't anything to share as a Christmas gift this year; as much as I'd love to share screenshots etc. from the Next Game, I want to reveal it properly with gameplay. I hope this isn't too disappointing and that the actual reveal more than makes up for it when the time comes. 🙏
Happy anniversary, TAGAP 3 and TAGAP 4!
We don't have a new version of the games for today, sadly but we do have something else. How about making today's Weekly Penguin a teaser of the future? Yeah, let's do that!
A teaser of the next TAGAP adventure:
Yes, there are new things brewing!
I'm pretty psyched about the project, it is something quite different and I can't wait to share it with you. The game itself needs some more time in the oven before it can be shown off, but I hope this piques your interest.
But wait, that is not all – there is also a whole new Making of TAGAP 4 blog update, about how I generate sprite frames from Photoshop files.
If you're interested in graphics editing or have torn out your hair fighting Photoshop's mishandling of transparencies, this one is for you; also featured are downloads to my self-made Photoshop script files that reduce the multi-step process to a single button press.
Thanks to help from fellow penguins, Penguin DT and TAGAP are now on Bluesky. We'll be on Twitter to the bitter end, but considering how fast it is deteriorating, time to have a new place to carry on penguin updates and Weekly Penguins.
We have the same handles on Bluesky as we do on Twitter: Name TAGAP and handle PenguinDT.

Last Saturday was the official 'best day of the year on Twitter', likely for the last time. That is naturally Sam's Penguins hosting the annual Draw A Penguin Day – when everyone is encouraged to draw a penguin. It makes everyone's day better, give it a try!
Twitter is in death spiral whilst its owner keeps pumping gasoline to the flames, so for this year I decided to do Sam's Penguin and our Pablo comforting the now-unemployed blue bird who helped us meet.
Huge thank you for Sam and his penguins – this event always brings a smile to my face! Here's hoping we'll find a way to continue it.
This – as well as our past entries – are available as wallpapers in the penguin wallpaper archive.
Thank you for 16 years of penguin world domination!
Though we usually feature tons of special treats on TAGAP Day – the anniversary of TAGAP on July 31st – this year we've struck a bit of a lull. TAGAP 4 is just out the door and development on new things has just started to pick up steam.
So, instead I thought this would be a good time to bring everyone up to speed on what's going on in form of an extra-large 'state of things' blog post.
Rest assured, you haven't seen the last of TAGAP yet. Things are happening behind the scenes, but are not ready for the prime time just yet. But hey, that just means it is the perfect excuse to celebrate the 'TAGAP's Sweet Sixteen' by replaying the quadrilogy!
And here comes the second of the three maintenance updates, this time for Classic TAGAP, bringing TAGAP and TAGAP 2 to v4.1.
The biggest improvement in this version is the DPI awareness support. This means the app window isn't affected by the Windows zoom levels in any way any more. As a downside, to fully support this meant axing support for Windows 7 and 8.1.
For the detailed changes, check out the version history.
Classic TAGAP is available both on Itch.io;
Or TAGAP website – as a smaller update or as a full download.
New development environment fully set and tested, time for a new maintenance update for TAGAP 4!
The highlights of the update are several compatibility fixes to ensure wider Windows version support (at least all the way back to 2020). Additionally, the new development environment is several versions ahead of the previous one, allowing for more detailed code analysis for potential issues. For the detailed changes, check out the version history.
As always, the game is available as a smaller update or as a full game download on Itch.io;
Or you can grab them from the TAGAP website.
Similar updates are incoming to the previous TAGAP titles as soon as next week!
World Penguin Day and Weekly Penguin Tuesday collide – so time for a special feature starring the biggest indie penguin game out right now!
No it isn't TAGAP – we're a niche little game – but the wacky The Greatest Penguin Heist of All Time by That Other Fish. Featured today, complete with double wallpapers, is the noot-nootin' player penguin from the game, in Makeship plushie form!
It is Penguin Awareness Day – the official day of celebrating all things penguin!
This one also marks the one year anniversary of the reveal of the TAGAP 4 collectibles. In case you've missed them, the penguin statues in the game unlock info sheets of all the penguin species, complete with custom artwork.
And you know what? In the name of celebrating penguins – all of them are now desktop downloads. Yes, that's another 17 new wallpapers (with two already released last year)!
Go grab 'em in the Penguin Downloads section – and decorate your desktop in the honour of today's titular birds!
Time for a look back on all the great games we've been playing during 2022. My mantra is 'you can't make a good game if you don't play games', so highlighting all the fantastic games we've loved is really important.
Without further ado, here is our showcase of the best games of 2022!
