Penguin DT's Season's Greetings!

One week 'till Christmas, so it is time for the annual greetings card! Feel free to distribute this Christmas card to cheer up your penguin-loving friends and loved ones!

Weekly Penguin Season's Greetings

This year was rough to get through, filled with personal setbacks and thus schedule delays on everything TAGAP. Getting some perspective to see the big picture is always important, much like how Pablo here is explaining the Milkyway to Pedro.

In terms of the Next Game, you can sort of picture this doodle in one of two ways; either the next game is too big for me to tackle as-is and I need to step back for some perspective – or it's just something epic and I need to wait for it to come together without stressing about it.

Either way, I hope it doesn't take as long to take shape as Milkdromeda does.

Feel free to distribute this Christmas card to cheer up your loved ones – or enemies – with:

Removal of four Weekly Penguins

This sounds like something from a story parodying dystopian sci-fi, but no, this is true.

Funko, the company behind Funko Pops, has started crawling the Internet with a 'brand protection tool' that uses AI to recognize 'harmful use of the brand'. And it is getting websites nuked via bombarding their domain hosts with bogus takedown claims.

And this being powered by AI, 'the tech of the future', it is absolutely rubbish and has gotten several totally unrelated sites nuked, including Itch.io.

Yes, really.

In order to protect TAGAP.net I've decided to remove all four Funkos I have from the Weekly Penguin feature – three different takes on Cobblepot and Chilly Willy. This includes their wallpapers – which sucks, because the Chilly Willy one was one of my favourite photo experiments.

Weekly Penguin milestone – 900 penguins!

Today we've reached Weekly Penguin milestone – today's entry is number 900!

900th Weekly Penguin, Jerry from the Greatest Penguin Heist of All Time

The honour goes to the plush version of the weapons merchant Jerry of That Other Fish cult classic The Greatest Penguin Heist of All Time.

Check out the entry for the details and the wallpaper downloads. And if you want to see what the other 899 penguins were, you can always browse the archives.

I wonder how far the counter climbs!

Belated 2nd TAGAP Day – TAGAP 3 and 4 Anniversaries!

Belated Happy Birthday to TAGAP 3 and TAGAP 4!

Both games had their release anniversaries last week, but life got in the way and didn't have the time to wrap up this anniversary update in time. I'm sorry if that was disappointing or worrying, luckily it wasn't anything bad this time, just a messy scheduling.

To celebrate, a new piece of spoiler free art. This is actually a frame of the storyboards for a cinematic of The Next Game, re-done as a digital painting. After doodling the assets for the in-engine version, I noticed it actually works well as a less-busy wallpaper.

2nd Teaser for The Next Game

Additionally, there's a new update from behind the scenes. As it happens, it's been a busy couple of months behind the scenes as well, with a lot of progress been made on The Next Game. Hop on to the development blog to read more.

Happy belated Birthday, 3+4!

On a semi-related note, due to the legal terms of use changes to Twitter, we won't be posting new artwork there. We'll let everyone know of the new updates and going-ons as usual, so if you're an ex-bird-app user, you'll stay in the loop. If you want the updates complete with the accompanying art and future screenshots on a social media platform, TAGAP is also on BlueSky.

TAGAP Day 2024 – Seventeen years of penguins!

The Defender of Scotland

1920×1080 1920×1200 3840×2160 (4k)

The first TAGAP turns seventeen years old today! It's honestly almost insane to think about.

As both a celebration of the event and as a hint of a hopefully-more-bright future, I created a new 'key art' for the occasion. As usual it is available for download in 4k.

Additionally, there is a new blog update I'd love you to read. It is a touch more personal one, covering why there haven't been any new updates and why the Next Game reveal won't happen this year. I'm so sorry about that. But it isn't all doom and gloom, there are reasons to hope the future looms bright for TAGAP.

Thank you for sticking to this ride so far – one year and the bugger is all grown up!

The Defender of Scotland

The Defender of Scotland

This month we've doing a celebration of Penned Guin over at the Weekly Penguin feature – and this week it is one very much on the topic of TAGAP. How I haven't posted this one before eludes me, so let's fix it!

In case you missed it in TAGAP 4, one of the paintings in Dr. Glowenko's mansion covering his world conquest depicts Scotland. Except it isn't of conquest, as Scotland is protected by the mighty Major General Sir Nils Olav III. Not even Nemesis could beat this true hero among penguins!

And this painting is an a real painting that was done by none other than Alan Henderson of Penned Guin fame!

Tribute to the Penned Guin

The Penned Guin Tribute

This week's Weekly Penguin is a special case, a tribute to the absolutely delightful Penned Guin comic strips by Alan Henderson. The comic strip came to close yesterday and it impacted me more than I anticipated – but instead of lamenting, I wanted to create a little tribute to it.

In case you've missed it out, not only is the comic great, I've also commissioned several customs works by the Maestro Henderson over the years – including a painting found in the Glowenko Mansion in TAGAP 4.

Please, consider checking out this tribute, the Penned Guin comic strip and the last Kickstarter for the collected versions.

Penguin DT's Games of the Year 2023

GOTY 2023

I keep saying it, but my mantra is and always will be 'you can't make a good game if you don't play games'. And as those games influence how we do things, highlighting all the games we've loved is a must.

Without further ado, here is our showcase of the best games of 2023!
