For the final Weekly Penguin of 2017, it's time to honour our annual tradition; Meet African Penguin chicks Simon, Helen and Arthur!
Naturally, these fellows are penguin chicks 'adopted' as part of preservation efforts of SANCCOB (Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds). For more information on these three fellows and SANCCOB, check out this week's Weekly Penguin entry.
Merry Christmas 2017! Though we don't have any new TAGAP 3 screenshots to share – you can always create your own now that the game is out – we do have something else!
We had to recreate the art for General Primo so that his introduction in the recap doesn't stand out like a sore thumb, but we couldn't let his glorious HD eyebrows go to waste. So, here is the evil super-villain of TAGAP 2 as a TAGAP 3 styled wallpaper!
I had a lot of fun with this re-design. Though his base form is almost identical to how he was in TAGAP 2, all the added detail – from full metal gauntlets to more mechanical headset – add up, giving him even more sinister visage.
Merry X-mas and peaceful Holiday Season all around!
Holiday Season 2017 is here – and that means here comes the 10th annual Weekly Penguin Season Greetings eCard! Feel free to distribute this Christmas card to cheer up your penguin-loving friends and loved ones!
Have a peaceful holiday, penguin friends!
Yay, TAGAP 3 is one month old! And what do you know, we have an update for the occasion TAGAP 3 v1.3. This update features:
To download the update, head to Download TAGAP 3 section – and yes, again you'll find both the updated full installer and a separate, easy-to-apply patch.
And again, thanks to everyone chiming in on the issues. And extra thanks to Mikhail CK/OPO for giving us great tips on how to make the life easier for everyone interested in making localisations.
Hey again! More bugs have been dealt with, so we've now reached TAGAP 3 v1.2. Fixes featured include:
To download the update, head to Download TAGAP 3 section – as usual, you'll find both the updated full installer and a separate, easy-to-apply patch.
Again, thank you for helping us track and identify these issues! We are already working on further improvements, but wanted to share these importat fixes with you as quickly as possible.
Of course we must have a Week 1 update – and in other news, water is still wet!
But seriously, this TAGAP 3 v1.1 quick hot-fix update fixes several issues, including creation of empty save files and collection of collision detection glitches. The game also now defaults to standard windowed mode on the first start-up, just in case the user's graphics card doesn't like borderless windowed mode.
Just head to Download TAGAP 3 section – you'll find both the updated full installer and a separate, easy-to-apply patch.
Extra thank-you to everyone who reported these issues!
It's here! Prepare for the third Penguin Apocalypse!
This glorious piece of art comes to you as a collaboration between the Penguin DT heads; Jouni did the original pencil work, whilst Petja digitally painted it to life. And since Petja painted it in such a high resolution, as a first for us, this glorious image is available also as a 4k wallpaper.
But wait, there's more! As a special surprise, Petja recorded his painting sessions, so here we have a TAGAP 3 cover art speed painting time lapse;
We're almost there, only one week to go!
It's calm before the storm – with only two weeks on the clock, the final countdown to TAGAP 3 begins!
But before we lock ourselves into the epic mega crunch mode, we take a time to appreciate Halloween and all the horror cliché greatness it entails. And since Halloween 2017 happens to be on Tuesday – aka The Weekly Penguin Day – it's time to introduce you to Pen the Skelanimal penguin!
If you are new here, Weekly Penguin is a feature in which we introduce a new penguin from the Penguin DT's Head Penguin's collections every week, on Tuesdays. Some of them, like Pen here, also comes as a desktop wallpaper!
Have a spooky Halloween, everybody!
By now, we've all heard of Grape-kun, the amazing Humboldt penguin who lived in Tobu Zoo, Japan. Grape-kun became a beloved internet star and otaku idol earlier in 2017 for falling in love with a cut-out of Hululu, penguin-girl character from Kemono Friends multimedia franchise. The story of 'penguin and his waifu' spread fast and wide, making Grape-kun a true celebrity.
Sadly, as reported by Tobu Zoo on October 13th 2017, Grape-kun passed away. True to this amazing story, the staff moved Hululu to the infirmary so that Grape-kun could spend his last moments with his love.
I've been following the love story of Grape-kun and Hululu since it first started trending across the internet and I found the passing of Grape-kun struck me hard. Yes, harder than any recent events or celebrity deaths.
See, to me Grape-kun was the perfect embodiment of why we love penguins; every time you think they couldn't become more relatable, then one falls in love with a cute anime character like a proper otaku.
We miss you, Grape-kun.
So much so, that we're now officially dedicating TAGAP 3 to his memory. We originally didn't mean to have a dedication this time around, but considering how much the passing of this little guy impacted me, I think this is appropriate. I can't think of another way to honour this love story proper.
Today is African Penguin Awareness Day, celebrating the awesomeness of this endangered flightless bird and raising awareness about their protection. And you know what that also means? A new TAGAP 3 screenshot!
But don't stop with TAGAP 3, days like these are a perfect excuse to stop, whip out Wikipedia or YouTube and spend the day watching penguin media. Not that you should need an excuse for that, but if you do, here it is.
And if you want to aid these amazing critters, please consider helping awesome folks like SANCCOB in their protection efforts. You can do it various ways – either by volunteering, donating or adopting penguins.
Have a waddling African Penguin Awareness Day!
As s surprise announcement, please welcome the Narrator for the intro of TAGAP 3;
Neil both a professional audiobook narrator and the sound mastermind behind Ladbroke Audio – the production company behind many of BBC audio books. Ladbroke Audio and Neil also work closely with Big Finish Productions – the folks behind the Doctor Who audio dramas we here at Penguin DT are addicted to – so you know the narration is in good hands.
And Neil is terrific performer as well; he nailed the narration right out of the gate and it works brilliantly in the game's intro. I can't wait to share it with you folks in November!
Huge thank you to Neil for joining our penguin world domination tour! Also a bonus thank you to Big Finish for pointing us to Neil's way.
Exactly 10 years ago, the original TAGAP: The Apocalyptic Game About Penguins was unleashed upon the unsuspecting world. Though we can't celebrate the occasion by releasing the much-anticipated TAGAP 3 – it needs a bit more time in the cooker – how about the next best thing?
You got that right:
And yes, the song heard in the trailer above is TAGAP 3 Theme Song!
But wait, there's more! Also for this occasion, our Weekly Penguin feature is a day ahead of schedule. And this time we're introducing you to the last of the TAGAP3 main villains; The Funky Warlord!
And finally, now that we have had the entire TAGAP3 rogues gallery introduced, meet the whole gang together, in screenshot taken straight from the opening cinematic:
Thank you all for supporting Pablo's world conquest over all these years – it means a lot to us!
We have a new blog post, showcasing the evolution of both the TAGAP Engine and our skills in utilizing it – by using the Antarctic location seen in all three games. Yes – that means new TAGAP3 screenshots!
Check out the blog post for more screenshots and the full comparisons!
A bit of almost-related non-TAGAP penguin news. I say almost related since Penguins vs Possums is one of our favourite things – as proven by the amount of Weekly Penguins we've featured of them over the years, from the comics themselves to collectible figurines. Though the series has ended, Fanbase Press still have one more big release to go; The trade paperback Volume 2, collecting the latter half of the series into one tome. The tome will be out on June 19th.
It wasn't until the creators Sebastian Kadlecik and John Bring were running a Kickstarter for the first trade paperback that I discovered the series, so I'm glad we're getting another to wrap things up proper. If you're up for some non-TAGAP apocalyptic penguin mayhem, do consider checking them out.
After six years of hard work, the magnum opus TAGAP3 is finally playable from start to finish... minus opening and closing cut-scenes, that is. For more detailed information on how and why this hasn't happened until now, check out our brand new blog update, but suffice to say; This is an epic mile-stone.
This doesn't mean that the work is over – far from it! There's still tons of work to do and while we don't have an exact release date for you great folks just yet, the window of 2017 doesn't seem like a stretch now!
The World Penguin Day is always a celebration for us penguin folk, but this time it ended with an awesome crossover; An illustrated Twitter shout-out for TAGAP by The Penned Guin artist Alan Henderson!
If you wish to know more about The Penned Guin, you can check out the recent Weekly Penguin entry on this great webcomic.
Thank you again, Mr. Henderson, this really made our day!
Stars have aligned and this year the World Penguin Day – April 25th – occurs on the Weekly Penguin day! So, for this week, we have something really special and amazing.
Yup, new artwork from Penguin DT! More specifically, a proper oil canvas painting by our resident composer Petja Heiskanen!
Naturally, we have a wallpaper to go with it, so feel free to decorate your desktop with Petja's awesome artwork!
And remember to have a fun and waddlin' World Penguin Day!
Speedrunners never cease to amaze me – and doubly so when they are waddling through TAGAP! Delta Velocity has been breaking records with TAGAP 2 on Necrophilissimo! difficulty, current top run clocking at 1 hour, 4 minutes and 13 seconds!
Well done, Delta Velocity!
Weekly Penguin is our regular feature that has been running since 2007 – and that means we've now reached the epic milestone of 500 featured penguins! Seriously, 500! That surely needs to be celebrated, so how about we do that with a new TAGAP 3 villain reveal?
So; Meet The Funky Warden!
In addition to The Funky Warden's wallpaper début, we've have a new Making of TAGAP 3 blog post for a proper introduction.
And remember, every week we introduce another new penguin item from our Head Penguin's seemingly never-ending collections. Just click that round penguin icon at the top-right corner of the website to see the latest featured penguin item!
A toast to 500 weekly penguins!
It's Penguin Awareness Day, the other one of the two days created to celebrate the greatest critters in the world! While for us at Penguin DT EVERY day is a 'penguin awareness day', this is the perfect excuse for everyone to explore penguin knowledge, visit penguins at your local zoo or perhaps participate in a penguin charity – like WWF and SANCCOB.
And what would such an occasion be without new TAGAP3 media! This time as was so busy crafting the ultimate boss encounter of TAGAP3 to create another character wallpaper, but I'm sure new TAGAP3 screenshot will do the trick;
Fear not, though; While we still haven't pinned down an actual release date, TAGAP3 is shaping up nicely. This means the remaining principal characters will be introduced soon enough! But meanwhile...
Have a fun Penguin Awareness Day!
