Troubleshooting update

April 20th, 2019

This issue has been resolved in all TAGAP since v1.6. If you somehow encounter a version of the game with this issue, head to TAGAP Downloads section and grab the latest version of the game.

I knew it was too easy; some users have had errors referring to XINPUT1_3.dll with the latest version of TAGAP, which introduced XInput Game Pad support for Windows XP SP1 and Vista. However, for some 'god-knows-why' reason, complete offline installation package of DirectX 9.0c doesn't ship with XInput files, even though it's supported. There are three possible ways to fix this;

  • Run DirectX web update. According to community that should fix the problem.

  • Install the DirectX using either the web-installer or DirectX 10 offline installer.

  • Download and use TAGAP Backwards Compatibility patch. Though it's unsupported, it's has been thoroughly tested to run smoothly on Vista / XP and doesn't have any XInput implemented.

This issue has also been added to our official troubleshooting F. A. Q.. For the next release I'll find a way to check XInput's existence without referring to it's DLL files – currently TAGAP just checks the DirectX version, as I wasn't aware of this glitch.

TAGAP v1.5 with XInput support

The latest version of TAGAP is here with support for XInput gamepads. So plug in your Xbox 360 game pad and experience TAGAP in new yet as-smooth-as-ever way! Version 1.5 also fixes a couple of recently discovered minor glitches as well as regular updates to FMOD Ex sound engine. Check the version revision for complete upgrade details.

The backwards compatibility version is also rebuilt using legacy SDKs to improve compatibility. However, recent test results – special thanks to forum member shaddem for testing – show that this wasn't as bullet-proof fix we had hoped. So if this release doesn't fix the BC issues for you, don't worry; we're already working on new, improved BC patch.

I know everyone is waiting for the just-announced Duke Nukem Forever teaser trailer, but after you're done with that, remember to check the upgraded TAGAP!

Merry and Peaceful Holidays!

This week's Weekly Penguin is a bit special kind; it's our official seasons creetings card to all our friends, families, fans and fellow penguins – which means you too, dear reader! Check Your creetings card. And pass it to your loved ones while at it.

On other news, if everything goes as planned, the promised v1.5 patch with gamepad support goes online by the end of this week. So if Santa doesn't bring you anything new to play, at least you can experience TAGAP in a whole new way.

TAGAP: Official Website v2.0

April 20th, 2019

While all the other new site features explained here remain to this day, we no longer have User downloads section. We weren't able to upkeep it proper due to the bandwidth it took. All the bandwidth we can afford goes to distributing TAGAP games themselves.

As promised; here comes the new website! In addition to new look, there are several new features, including section for TAGAP 2, official blog and user-submitted downloads! Check the blog for info on what's still to come.

And don't forget the Weekly Penguin! It's now at the top-right corner of your screen.

Looking at the near future

While we are working hard on TAGAP 2, that doesn't mean we have abandoned the original TAGAP; on a contrary, we are cooking perhaps the biggest update to date. The biggest new thing will be support for XInput gamepads (Xbox 360 controller, Logitech ChillStream, etc.) so now you can easily play TAGAP on your laptop or TV. And don't worry, the control method is not cursor-based, but closer to shooters on Xbox Live Arcade.

The second big feature in the next update is improved backwards compatibility. Thanks to detailed feedback by the community, I have managed to tweak things so that hopefully most of the issues, especially input related crashes, will be gone.

Finally the renovated TAGAP website is almost done. It's complete redesign, featuring TAGAP blog, section for user submitted downloads. I'm pretty confident that the new site will be up by the next weekend, the following weekend at the latest.

Major apology

November 25th, 2007

Our servers have been recovered. You don't have to download TAGAP again, just get the 1.2Mb update, it will fix the problem. Download the 1.2 Mb update from our downloads section.

Recently I've received some weird bug reports, literary "things that should not be", and it turned out all of these were caused by not the game, but a server glitch; instead of stable build, our own mirror links referred to a work-in-progress build that was never supposed to be made publicly available. So if you've experienced hick-ups, download the game again from one our mirrors instead, they work fine. I'm re-uploading everything as I write, so our servers will function shortly.

I'm extremely sorry for this trouble. I wish I didn't spoil your day :(

Major announcement

Most of you already guessed it was coming, but still; we're proud to officially announce TAGAP 2!

November 15th, 2007

MikroBitti honors TAGAP again!

The next subscriber gift DVD of MikroBitti, Finland's most popular computer magazine, will feature TAGAP! Called 'Huvi- & Hyötyromppu' (literary 'amusement and utility disc'), this annual gift DVD is packed with the very finest freeware and shareware programs of the year – and it's definitely an honor to be one of them! Thanks again for the honor, MikroBitti!

In other TAGAP news, that 'major TAGAP related announcement' we mentioned earlier will be revealed tomorrow. Stay tuned.

November 7th, 2007

TAGAP goes Mod DB

It's been up for a while, but somehow I missed it; TAGAP is now listed as a game modification platform at Mod DB, Internet's biggest and most thorough game modifications site. If you didn't know it already, TAGAP is very open for editing. With built-in level editor and TAGAP_Script you won't need any previous programming or Modding experience, just some creativity.

So, if you are cooking some neat TAGAP Mods, go and post them at Mod DB – and let us know too!

Game of the day!

April 20th, 2019

MikroBitti no longer has their 'game of the day' or 'game of the month' features for free- and shareware. While this is understandable due to the changing times, it's still a bummer to loose a decade-long genre tradition.

TAGAP was yesterday (October 30th) featured as "Game of the Day" on MBnet's Game of the Day feature. MBnet is the home of Finland's most popular computer magazine MikroBitti and one of the most extensive computer hobbyist sites I know.

Thank you very much for the honor!

Forums are back!

April 20th, 2019

TAGAP website no longer has a forum. There is really no need for one as we can be easily contacted via social medias, like Twitter and Facebook

TAGAP Forums are back online! My Swedish is pretty bad, but it seems the problem had something to do with a "traktor". What does big farm-life related motorvehicle have to do with it? I don't know.

TAGAP v1.4 and backwards compatibility

Here comes TAGAP v1.4, featuring updated FMOD Sound Engine, sound initialization code upgraded according to the latest guidelines from Firelight Technologies and minor editing-related fix.

Head to Downloads section to get the update.

Together with this latest patch comes optional backwards compatibility fix, which features game executable as optimized for Windows 98 and ME. Since we can't properly test it, this fix is unsupported and released "as is". Windows XP and Vista users won't need it.

And while downloading remember to check this week's Weekly Penguin.

Technical forum difficulties

I was just notified that the server hosting our forum is down due to an ISP router problem. It's currently being dealt with and the forums should be up 'n running again shortly. Fingers... I mean flippers crossed.

New mirror and hi-res trailer

April 20th, 2019

Obviously the 'high quality' of Bink has long since been surpassed by YouTube's HD streams. Since the first trailer was created with this Bink distribution in mind, we don't have a proper HD copy of it. However, we remastered this first trailer in 2011 in the best possibly quality.

This version is also available for download via Google Drive

Thanks to the help of our supporters we can once again host the downloads. To celebrate this we now offer the trailer in super-sharp RAD Tools Bink format – the trailer runs by itself and doesn't require any player or codecs!

Download the hi-res trailer (45 MB) or head to Media section for smaller versions.
